As a South American Metalhead, I must say that we are trapped in many misconceptions and historical/social grotesque erroneous ideas. In Brazil, for example, the greater part of the Metal fans know a lot about the USA and European scenes, but the lack of knowledge about bands of other countries from South American is a shame. But I'm lucky, because as a writer I can deal with bands from any country the reader can think of, and it's great to hear "Unconscious Suicide", the first album from THIRSTY DEMON.

Their music is a form of Old School Black Metal with a clear influence from Old School Thrash/Death Metal. So the readers can think of a band that mixes influences of SODOM, DESTRUCTION, SLAYER, POSSESSED, BATHORY and others, but bearing a personal core inside its music. Obviously, Cristian (the only member of the band) can do better that is shown on the album (because the musical potential show is great), but for now, it's really a very good surprise. In a similar way to Quorthon, Cristian produced, recorded (an obvious fact), mixed and mastered the songs of the album (and he is used to do studio works). The final result is something crude and dirty as can be heard in some old records. But the sonority is defined and the songs can be understood, and the songs show power and sound impact. It's a good sound quality, indeed.

The brutal and monstrous rhythms of "Whispers of the Damned" (a good and simple work on bass guitar and drums that works in a great way), the massive weight of the Thrash/Death Metal guitars shown on "Sadistic Desire" and "In Silence", the nasty fast and aggressive tempos of "Negative State", and the bone crushing oppressive ambiences of "Calls to Death" (a feature that can be explored deeper in the future releases of the band) are the best songs of the album. Of course, the Old School outfit can be a problem to deal to some Metalheads (and a stimulating feature for others), but the value of "Unconscious Suicide" can't be denied.

For now, all that's left to say is that "Unconscious Suicide" is a very good release, so if THIRSTY DEMON can sharpen its musical efforts, no one will hold them back!
