SARS - thRough Reality album cover

Today, the influences from Modern Metal ways can be heard in many Metal genres, including Death Metal. And maybe such influences can be heard in many bands, even when Metalheads have no idea of it (since today, many can hear the groove presented on early works of BLACK SABBATH). So to hear a band as the Polish quartet SARS isn't something that can astonish the older and experienced ones. And their EP "thRough Reality" (yes, this is the right way of writing the EP's name) is really very good.

They're a Death Metal band with a heavy load of modern influences. In some ways, they can be said as in the same way of DECAPITATED on their latest works: aggressive, brutal and oppressive. But SARS works in a more technical way, with some Groove/Thrash Metal influences (the beginning of "Delighted Frost" shows it clearly), and the use of more modern elements can be heard in many parts. So their work is brutal and can eroded the ears, but with charming elements and an amazing energy flowing from their harmonies. The guitarist Cinek worked on the production of the EP, and did the mix and mastering as well. All to give the quartet a brutal and aggressive outfit, but in a way that their modern elements can be heard, and the instruments are defined and can be understood without problems.

"Delighted Frost" is abrasive and heavy, permeated with Groove/Thrash Metal influences (especially on the guitars, in a way similar to SEPULTURA), and the same happens on "77" (although this one shows a more Death Metal trend, including with technical rhythmic work from bass guitar and drums). On "Bastard Nation", they really create a set of tempos and harmonies that hooks the listeners easily (and presents good contrasts between grunts and screams). The abrasive Groove influences of their music becomes even more listenable on "Headvision" and on "Thought Flood". Five tracks of a very good band, indeed.

To end this review, all that's left to say is that SARS really has a very good work. But their musical potential can improve some more, because "thRough Reality" shows it clearly.
