Devil Inside
Shiny Daggers
As many people already know, Black Metal as it is known today was born from a collection of influences from MOTÖRHEAD and Punk Rock (what VENOM did), mixed with some Speed/Thrash Metal elements (especially from the German Thrash/Black Metal school). This is the fundamental basis of the genre, but there are some bands that try to bring back the old feeling, before the Second Wave of Black Metal took the world by assault. And that the case from Denmark's SHINY DAGGERS, as can be heard on the single "Devil Inside".
On these two songs, the listeners will get a similar sound that can remind elements used by KREATOR (especially from the era between the EP "Flag of Hate" and "Terrible Certainty") and DESTRUCTION. Of course some Hardcore influences can be heard clearly, and even some sad and harsh melodies, and the energy delivered by the quartet is really raw and aggressive. Black/Thrash Metal fans will love this Single for sure! The recordings were done by True Lord, while Glock is the one who mixed and mastered both songs. It seems that the idea was to sound raw and putrid as in the first half of the 80's, but in a defined way where everything can be understood clearly. They did things in a good way, but could be better.
Both songs are sounding like a big 'fuck you' to everyone, because they do things as they want above everything. On "Necro", they can remind some bands of early Second Wave, but with a clear Thrash Metal impact one the arrangements (with very good guitars and shrieks), and "Master Killer" is a massive and brutal fast attack (in the 80's way), filled with very good rhythmic work (bass guitar and drums sounding as solid as rocks). It's obvious that the listeners will question why they released only two songs.
For now, "Devil Inside" is a very good first coming, but SHINY DAGGERS can be back as soon as possible to show more of what they are hiding in the band's sleeve.
