Coscradh - Mesradh Machae (The Heads of the Men Who Have Been Slaughtered) album cover

Some bands keep a strong and deep link with Old School Metal forms. There's nothing wrong with that, unless the musicians turn the links into chains that binds and constrains their potential due the limitations of the models. Each band must be itself to earn a public, because no one will pay attention for a clone. And some improvement must be done by the guys of COSCRADH, because the flaws heard on "Mesradh Machae (The Heads of the Men Who Have Been Slaughtered)" are hard to deal with.

The quartet from Ireland is into a form of Old School Death/Black Metal that really seems to fit on the early years of the 90's. But the way they do the things seems like many other bands that were already heard before, and on countless times. They're not bad, but they aren't sounding like themselves, but as many others. Of course they have potential to make great things (it's clear to the ears of the experienced fans), but not trying to be in the same level of others. Take things in your hands, and write music as your own!

Shauny Cads recorded the album and did the mixing, and Marco  worked on the mastering. And something went very wrong, because the sonority isn't organic (it seems the idea that they had for this EP), but filthy and raw that really make things hard to be understood. There are many ways to work in such form and in a better way, so find it. Maybe a producer that knows the genre as Dan Swanö could be of some help. Finally, "Mesradh Machae" and "Plagues of Knowth" are filled with very good musical ideas (the riffs and contrasts between vocal tunes is very good, the rhythmic work from bass guitar and drums is really good), but they are drowned by a flood of many musical clichés that are already eroded by time and can exhaust the patience of the listeners.

As these songs are just a sample of what a coming album seems to be, COSCRADH still have time available to change things. Do it, and do it now, because "Mesradh Machae (The Heads of the Men Who Have Been Slaughtered)" could be a total loss if things are going to stay as they are.
