Carnal Savagery - Fiendish album cover

The Old School Metal trend gave a valuable contribution to Metal: to allow old forms of playing Metal to keep alive, to make them worthy once more. It's because as things evolve, many people lose the passion for past release and genres, as renovation of the public takes its tool. So to hear a band as the Swedish quintet CARNAL SAVAGERY today, releasing a brutal massacre as heard on "Fiendish" is really a good experience.

They're not renewing anything or reinventing the wheel. It's just the classic and traditional form of playing Death Metal that CARNAGE, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER and UNLEASHED created and popularized throughout the years. But in the hands of these guys, things gain a new form and energy, because they do things in their own way, and they evade becoming a 'copycat' of any other band. The references and influences are clear to anyone, but not in a way to say that they're not themselves.

The production can be said as an important factor to make this album so good. The Metal master Dan Swäno mastered the album, and it sounds brutal, oppressive and classic, but never trying to be a band from the past. Everything sound raw and nasty, but in a modern way that can be understood at its best.

It's not a sin to say that the quintet can be seen as a Death Metal AC/DC (sorry, Dan, but I had to use your words): playing nasty and filthy, but always honest and like themselves. And pieces like "Shredded Flesh" (a classic Death metal opening song, with fast tempos and manic shredding guitars), "Reborn Dead" (another fast assault that causes forced traumas due its pile-driving bass guitar and drums expressive work), "Embalmed Corpses" (a set of contrasts between fast moments and slow parts with bitter and filthy ambiences, where the vocals evolves from grunts to screams easily), "Dead Rotten Meat" and "Maggot Infested Flesh" (two slow and all-out-Death-Metal songs to crush bones, with another feast of good rhythmic changes), "Veil of Death" (an oppressive Death Metal dirge with magnificent guitar riffs once more), and "Grotesque Macabre" are the ones to start with. But "Vermin" (the bonus track from CD version) and "Morgue of the Mutilate" (the bonus track from digital version) are songs that can't be out of your collection!

A magnificent Swedish Old School Death Metal piece is what CARNAL SAVAGERY is offering to you. So hear "Fiendish" out loud, and blow your bones into pieces!
