Heretic Warfare - Hell on Earth album cover

Germany is a country with extremely talented musicians, very technical bands and definitely memorable acts that have shaped a lot of metal's history, you expect quality out of a German release. Speaking in pure Death Metal language, this is no exception. HERETIC WARFARE delivers hateful music, it is ravenous and pure, technical and skillful. I like the artwork design and inlay. I went through all the lyrics and enjoyed them greatly.

"Warfare on Heretic Scum" opens up, straight to the point with aggressiveness and fury. The guitars are at times thrashy on the riffing, fast and violence injected, vocals are pure DM Style, not too growled, giving the deep screaming room to power it up. After almost breaking my neck to the opening track I got punched in the face by "Hedonistic Perfection", my favorite track on this album. It has the type of violent execution in music I enjoyed so much in monumental records like DEMOLITION HAMMER´s "Epidemic of Violence" or MALEVOLENT CREATION's "The Ten Commandments" with vocals in the style of GRAVE or HATE.

The title track "Hell on Earth" has flames burning all over, focused on evil in its purest form. At times very technical, the intense drumming and pissed-off screaming at the end of this song and in "Mass-Murder Monument" make me think of DEICIDE and HATE ETERNAL.

"Black Rage" is a bit different somehow, it gave me a Black Metal aftertaste, as I felt some modern twist on it and vocals a bit more agonic, perhaps leaning towards the kind of Blackened Death Metal bands like BEHEMOTH have offered in the last years. As I mentioned before, the guitar work is different on this track and includes some very nice solos, demonstrating the high quality of the compositions, something that can also be noticed in the riffing and emotional soloing in "Redemption Denied".

"Death of a Traitor" closes the show with a fireworks display. Pure raw brutality and great musicianship, sometimes reminiscent of one of my favorite German Death Metal bands: OBSCENITY. I love the breakdowns among the technical parts in this one, definitely a track to destroy everything around.

As a Death Metal act HERETIC WARFARE are not really trying to bring anything new into the game, to break any new boundaries or find new paths. The compromise is with brutality, with making music that can really transmit the feeling of hateful rage in it while playing flawlessly and with intensity. You can tell by just a few of the bands I've mentioned here as a reference, that the level of musicianship and the effect the sound of this band has on you is very powerful; it deserves a spot among the leading names, those who set the standard in the genre.
