Puteraeon - The Cthulhian Pulse: Call from the Dead City album cover

After the coming of the pioneers of MORBID, NIHILIST, CARNAGE and the worldwide praise to ENTOMBED, UNLEASHED and DISMEMBER, the Swedish Death Metal became a stronghold for the genre, and created a Death Metal school that influences many bands even today. Swedish Death Metal isn't just a label, but an identity shown by the bands from Sweden. Bands as PUTERAEON show this same musical DNA, as can be heard on "The Cthulhian Pulse: Call from the Dead City".

To call their music as Swedish Death Metal is like to make rain on the wet floor. It's the traditional form of playing the genre as the pioneers, but with an identity pulsing under their musical work. And some residual traces of Thrash Metal and even from traditional Heavy Metal can be detected on their musical work, but in an updated form that fits on today's exigencies. The best features of the past (aggressiveness, jigsaw guitars, and bitter heavy weight) meets the present (with a good melodic aesthetics appearing in many moments, and shaping the songs) in a great way, creating something hooking, filled with life and a massive Death Metal energy.

A great album begins with the choice of a great producer. And they had on Dan Swanö (who mixed and mastered the songs) the ideal partner, because the album sounds alive, actual and clean, but with the roughness of the past (that resides on the set of instrumental tunes used). And even the arrangements that many do not pay attention can be heard clearly. It's really an excellent work!

These Death Metal Explorers of the cursed island of R'lyeh came to take your ears by assault, and have to mercy of doing it. But the listeners will be seduced by the appeal of songs as "The Sleeping Dread" (a massive and well worked song, with some melodic sense appearing in many guitar lines), "Permeation" (a fast and brutal Death Metal song in the traditional sense that shows the Hardcore influences from the genre, and what a massive work from bass guitar and drums), "The Curse" (very good tempos in mid speed, with charming guitars arrangements), "Call of R'lyeh" (bombastic slow parts that reinforces the bitter ambience, and another great moment from bass guitar and drums), "Terror at Sea" (a piledriving set of tempos that drills into your ears, with fine guttural snarls), and "The End Cometh". But from the beginning to the end, this album is the embodiment of the purest Death Metal appeal.

PUTERAEON's music is really excellent, and even playing an eroded musical genre, breathe some life into it. Listen to "The Cthulhian Pulse: Call from the Dead City" and be prepared to have your ears melt!
