If people could see what reality deeply is, they would never take conservative positions in anything, especially when talking about music. It's not because a classic line up broke up that a band can't continue its work and keep it as good as it always is. These lines means that DEEP PURPLE, even after all these years, is still releasing good albums (even with haters saying that their time has passed). "Woosh!", their 21^th album.

The musical content is the same old and good Hard Rock/Classic Rock with Blues and Progressive Rock influences. It means that their music is solid, melodic and fill of excellent hooks, but as the lineup is solid and the egos wars is a feature that belongs to the past, the internal good vibe transpires in the songs, but they're economic in terms of instrumental technique, the vocals evade high pitches, and all to keep these guys on the road for some more years. But the difference between DEEP PURPLE and many others is their capacity to adapt to new times, but keeping their musical personality, so "Whoosh!" can't be said as a classic, but it's a very good album, better than its predecessor, "Infinity".

The link from the past with the present lies on the sonority: the sage Bob Ezrin made a great work again. He did something that sounds organic and with that raw feeling of the 70s, but with the advantages of modern techs, allowing the songs to flow full of life, energy, but in a clean way. It's another hit in the bull's-eye.

If the reader is looking for something like "Deep Purple in Rock", "Fireball", "Machine Head", or "Burn", maybe you'll be disappointed, because these classics they already did, and if "Woosh!" will be in their level, only future will tell. But for now, songs as "Throw My Bones" (a classic Hard Rock with Bluesy touches, and with very good vocals and backing vocals), "Drop the Weapon" (with a slow set of rhythms, what means a great work from bass guitar and drums, along with a catchy chorus), "We're All the Same in the Dark" and "Nothing at All" (both songs with a clear feeling from the 70's, Progressive Rock touches and many hooks), "What the What" (almost a Rockabilly song, with a heavy and melodic approach in the vein that the quintet always shows, with very  good guitars), the heavy grasp of "The Long Way Around" (excellent vocals and another great exhibition from the guitars), and the instrumental song "And the Address" (an amazing song, and the keyboards parts are amazing) will take hold of the fans' hearts.

All that's left to say is that "Woosh!" shows that DEEP PURPLE is living a great moment in the band's career, so forget the past, and enjoy the present.
