As history sets its scenarios back in the end of the 80's and the early years of the 90's, with the implosion of USSR and the outbreak of Black Metal, many things came from eastern countries of Europe. It's obvious that a musical quality of a band doesn't come from where it is founded, but from the musicians. But the Russian quartet RENUNCIATION really has a different charm, as the EP "The Terminal Archetype" shows.

Their musical work is based on a Black/Death Metal filled with experimental/progressive elements, and some traces from Thrash Metal here are there (as can be heard on guitars on "The Terminal Archetype"), with charming melodies and catchy arrangements. They are still pretty young, but their music is really excellent by now, showing a very good balance between the elements that fill their music with life and energy. But they still can mature some more, but it's truly good by now, and deserves attention.

Roman Arsafes is the one who made the mixing and mastering, creating a sound quality that can be clean and defined for the sake of the listeners understanding, but keeping some of that crude aesthetics that is important to this specific Metal genre. It's not perfect, some instrumental tunes could be better, but it's a pretty good work.

"When There's No One to Fear the Night" is just an instrumental intro that paves the way for "Deliverance from God", a massive weighty song with very good guitar riffs and great snarls from the vocals. In a modern Thrash/Black way, "The Terminal Archetype" is a brutal strike, but shaped with very good Melodic Death Metal arrangements (another very good work from guitars). A bit more brutal that the previous songs, "Arrogance of Worms" is showing some influences from Swedish and Finnish Melodic Death Metal school, and a solid work from bass guitar and drums. And "Порог (The Threshold)" brings back some good grasping melodies that are usual on early CHILDREN OF BODOM's works (but in a personal way).

RENUNCIATION shows on "The Terminal Archetype" that is a name that must be respected, and this EP invites the listeners to wait for their first album (that I personally hope that can be out as soon as possible).
