CULTUS PROFANO is Black Metal band from the city where the palms and Hard Rock reigns: Los Angeles. It was a surprise to me when I found out that they aren't from Europe or at least a region with not that much sun. They have recently released their newest album "Accursed Possession" on 28th August throughout Debemur Morti Productions and that is what we are going to talk about.

The opening track from the album is the scary "Cursed in Sin, Op 25 Stream" that starts with an ambiance created by bells, winds and what it seems to be a possessed person being exorcised by a priest. The instrumental is good and they remind of the traditional Norwergian Black Metal, but with a good quality.

"Devoted to the Black Horn, Op 16 Stream" starts with a fingering guitar riff that created a more immersive ambiance and the drums did a good work as well. There is a variety on the vocals on that song as well, which made It dynamic. "Upon a Tomb of Sacrilege, Op. 4 Stream" and "Towards the Temple of Darkened Fates, Op. 19 Stream" leads you through pure hate and coldness as the riffs are sharp and they are both fast songs.

"Within a Coven of Shadow, Op. 21" feels different than previous songs, even if it has all the elements, there's seem to be a different influence going on here. The drums reminded me a lit bit of Rock N' Roll and Heavy Metal at some points and I believe that It helped shaping the song into a different style, even though it still has their identity. "Tenebris Venit, Op 23 Stream"  have a different atmosphere if compared to the previous songs, it is slower and even a little bit experimental and atmospheric.

"Crown of Hellfire, Op 11 Stream" starts at full force with all the aggressive that we have found on the album and the vocals seems to be even more harsh. The guitar work here reminded me of EMPEROR and the drums kept their identity, instead of only adding blast-beats to it. That is a good song.

CULTUS PROFANOS have released and written a good Black Metal album, even if they are from the land of palm and Hard Rock. It is cool to know that there are that kind of bands coming from L.A. The quality of the album is good, the compositions were well done and the dynamics of that album was something nice.
