Cult Burial
Cult Burial
The lands of England gave birth to Metal and to the three pillars of everything that the whole genre has: BLACK SABBATH (the creator), JUDAS PRIEST (the one who sharpened and modernized the genre), and MOTÖRHEAD (the father of extreme Metal genres). From them, everything came. Then, English shores are a fertile land for new bands, and some really has a special appeal on their music, as the trio CULT BURIAL, from London, that is unleashing its first full length, "Cult Burial".
The band mixes influences from classic forms of Doom Death Metal with Black Metal, creating something aggressive and nasty, but filled with energy. But the main feature that pulses in the songs is their personality, doing things on their own, creating a very good set of guitar riffs, with a different rhythmic structures and very good grunts. But their musical ideas must be explored slowly to have this clear idea, so "Cult Burial" isn't an album to be heard only one time.
The album sonority shows that Simon Langford on the mixing and Chris Coulter on the mastering did a good work, aligning the nasty aggressiveness of the band with a aesthetics that could sound abrasive and harsh, but being defined and allowing the listeners to understand what is being played by the band. And the final result is very good.
"Dethroner" is a sharp and massive flow of energy sharpened by darkened guitar riffs (and with good tempo changes), "Moribund" and "Chaos" has a slower and bitter Doom Death Metal insight (again using nasty guitars); "Abyss" shows some catchy parts derived from early Death Metal (and very good vocals, with contrasts between grunts and shrieks), "Kill" has the old and good Doom Death Metal introspective aggressiveness, and "Forever" shows some technical parts derived from Old School Thrash Metal on its guitars. These are the ones indicated for a first time on the band's work, besides the entire album is very good.
"Cult Burial" is a fine example of how to be creative using old musical formulas, but as well, it shows that CULT BURIAL has enough potential to create something even better, so the band's future is promising!
