Hailing from Dalarna, Sweden, STORMBURST are the revival of album-oriented rock (AOR) formed in 2014. Set to release on August 28, 2020 through AOR Heaven Records, "Highway To Heaven" is the band's second full-length album. Their sound is instantly recognizable to anyone who is a fan of the heyday of anthemic rock songs of the '80s, reviving a sound that is not nearly as present today as it should be.
Starting with the title track, this record immediately lets you know what genre these guys live for. "Highway To Heaven" and "Rock N Roll Soldier" are straight out of the '80s playbook. Singing about life on the road and touring, this tune hearkens back to so many others by bands like SCORPIONS, GREAT WHITE and TESLA. With a little Hair Metal sound reminiscent of other bands like WARRANT and WHITE LION at times, they also go even older school and channel some DEEP PURPLE vibes with their keyboard sound.
Now, don't think these guys are just copycats. The arrangements are honoring their predecessors, not copying them. "Miles Away" is a power ballad that should be released as the second single to continue the legacy of the 80s and the need to release the rocker first, then the ballad. Track #7, "Who Do You Think You Are" could easily be the first or third single. With the classic 70s keyboard tone, this is the song that gets the crowd dancing. "Miles Away" has them holding up their lighters (okay, cellphones since it is 2020).
"Run For The Light" is the rebel Rock song. The outlaw who cannot be tamed needs to be on the road and his loving woman just needs to understand that he will always be on the run. Again, the 80s personified in song with a new feel. Wrapping up the record is "One Dream", that classic song about holding on to hope and looking forward to the end of the journey when everything will be alright.
STORMBURST is a breath of fresh air in an older musical style. There is nothing complicated about these tunes. They are feel good rock songs that are meant to impress you with the craftsmanship of the melody, not the speed/brutality of a Metal song. Arena Rock is NOT dead, and if these guys have their way, it will not go quietly, but will fight to live on through the next generation of Classic Rock fans. Solid album start to finish!
