People see Death Metal as an 80's Metal genre due POSSESSED's "Seven Churches" and DEATH's "Scream Blood Gore" and "Leprosy". These albums paved the way for the genre, but that Death Metal wave that took the world by assault back on the early days of the 90's created a lot of musical elements and insights that is impossible to deny their seminal importance. And the Russian quintet KATALEPSY learned their lessons, as can be heard on "Terra Mortuus Est".

Their brutality has a classic Brutal Death Metal insight with some influences of Old School Death Metal technique. But some modern small touches can be detected in the middle of the musical brutality imposed by them. Their musical work could be compared to SUFFOCATION on its latest releases, but not being a copy. It's just a reference as they can mix brutality with a good technical insight, for this quintet shows personality on what they're doing.

Such manic Death Metal manifestation must bear a good sonority, what is shown on "Terra Mortuus Est". It blends the oppressive and massive aggressiveness that the genre unleashes with a clean embodiment, allowing the quintet to express their music at its finest. And the low instrumental tunes used fits in such musical slaughter.

There are 11 musical massacres presented by the quintet, having as its finest moments the nasty and massive rhythm of "Closer Than Flesh" (many technical moments of bass guitar and drums, without leaving the rhythm without weight), the smashing bones riffs of "Night of Eden" (the guitars are extremely technical, but always aggressive and heavy), the nasty and bitter ambiance of "Those Who Rot the Souls" and "Terra Mortuus Est" (both presenting very good low grunts that are expressive to the bones), the spearhead guitar arrangements used on "Deep Down Madness", and the contrasts of tempos used on "Neonomicon III". But the entire are the album is a feast of brutality and a nasty banquet of Brutal Death Metal.
