EARTH DRIVE is a Portuguese metal band that mix up Heavy Metal with Psychedelic Rock vibes. It was a really good surprise to get to know one more portuguese metal band and I would like to say hi from Brazil. Well, these guys have recently released their newest album "Helix Nebula" and that's what we are going to talk about.

The opening song from the album is "Cosmic Eye" and its an instrumental song where you can hear the bass drawing some lines and some cosmic guitar sound as well. "Helix Nebula" is the song that gave its name to the album and it starts out with a cool guitar work and some bass n' drums as well. Sara's vocals are sweet and soft, but they are deep as well and the vocal lines are pretty good. The song has indeed a different atmosphere and you will get surprise when you hear the chorus with Sara's and Hermano's voice duet. Great song.

"Holy Drone" starts out with a cool guitar ambiance, bass lines and also some sort of keyboards in the background. Its an instrumental song. "Spectra" starts out with a good drumming and have a nice ambiance created by the bass and guitar work. This song reminded me of PORCUPINE TREE. There are tons of nice elements here and I liked how they maintained the song a little bit calmer and then they just hit you right in the face, but in a very classy way.

"Axial View" starts out with a cool groovy guitar riff and some vocals as well. I love the guitar tone and I think that its probably of the things that gave the album a cool ambiance as well. Sara is an incredible singer and she just own the room. What a great song. "Dharma Throne" starts out with a heavy guitar riff and a good bass and drum sound that will complete the heaviness and creates the right ambiance for whats about to come. It's definitely a darker and heavier song and I think that its a very good one to see live. It has different dynamics where it varies from the heaviness to calmness, definitely a good song.

"Nagarjuna" starts out with some vocals on the background and a very dark and tense instrumental that creates a dark ambiance. "Anulom Vilom" continues what the previous song started, but its has more guitars. "Science of Pranayama" starts out with a cool and heavy guitar riff, but then it turns into something pretty different and the guitars reminded me of some Arabic music. I must say that the percussion and bass are really important over here and they were pretty well written.

"Amazon" starts out with a cool ambiance for what reminded me of a steel acoustic string guitar played with a slide. It has a nice ambiance and its an instrumental song that will calm down yourself for sure. "Phantalien" is a very dark and scary song with some vocals and cosmic sounds on the background, but its a cool and interesting one.

"Space God" is the song that closes the album and it starts out with a beautiful instrumental created by the guitar and bass and right after the drums comes in. Its pretty progressive and has a lot of beauty on it. I liked the vocal lines from the stanzas and chorus and all the arrangements as well. Great song to end the material.

EARTH DRIVE have written and released a great album of a style of their own. I must say that I am happy to know that Portugal is spreading and creating great bands and I wish I had known the band when I was there for a while Well, I have nothing much to say besides that you should listen to their album because its a very different thing and its great.
