Fresh Metal
The Prophecy 23
The alchemy of mixing Metal genres has given good results since the 80's, when things became more interesting. Today, it's a need for those who want to be heard as different, to those who really want to become notorious into the worldwide scene. And the German quintet THE PROPHECY 23 (the right is to write the band's name as THE PROPHECY23) really does such thing, as can be heard on "Fresh Metal", a blow of fresh energy in their genre.
Basically, the band walks on a Thrash Metal/Crossover way similar to S.O.D., NUCLEAR ASSAULT and M.O.D., but mixed with some Groove HC (that same set of features used on NYHC from names as BIOHAZARD) influences, and Death Metal grunts. Their music really sounds new, as the guys do the things in their own way, and the energy, the catching choruses and backing vocals, and hooking melodies, but always being aggressive in the right way. And by the way, this album really sounds funny, a feature that seems old fashioned to some, but what means that it will give to the listeners a very good time.
The sound quality is amazing. It's a very good work of Hannes Klopprogge (producer), the co-producers Christoph Brandes (co-pro Kai Stahlenberg (co-producer, and the one who made the mixing and mastering), BONASSIS, Phil Butcher and Kai Stahlenberg (who mixed and mastered the songs as well). All sounds in a great way, clean, aggressive and with an organic feeling permeating all the songs, maybe due a simple set of instrumental tunes.
"We Love Fresh Metal" (a fine blend of grunts with Crossover/HC influences), the accessible and funny "No Deep Talks - Just Drinks" and "Caps, Trucks and Rock 'N' Roll" (amazing guitars and backing vocals, a festival of Punk Rock influences as well), the pure fun energy that flows from "I Wish I Could Skate" (a very good work on bass guitar and drums, and it's impossible to stay in the same place as the song is being played) and "Beach, Waves, Beer, Babes", the brutal "Intergalactic Anti Capitalism" (where some Death Metal influences become more evident), the explosion of NY HC/Crossover influences (besides some melodies can be heard clearly) shown on "P Y L", and the unexpected Bluesy feeling that fills "The Greenwolf" are the album's finest songs for a first time. On the second, you bang your head until your neck aches to the extreme!
Fun and excellent music meet on "Fresh Metal", and in a non-conventional way. So as THE PROPHECY23's fourth album ends, the need to spin it and listen again demands to be satisfied!
