Sun of the Endless Night - Symbols of Hate and Deceitful Faith album cover

This is the debut album of UK Thrash Metal band of SUN OF THE ENDLESS NIGHT. With a name like that I was actually expecting something more in the Doom Metal variety so I was quite surprised when I started listening to the album! This band is composed of current and ex-members of SUICIDE WATCH, ANIHILATED, STAMPIN' GROUND and FREEBASE. All bands are in the Metalcore or Thrash Metal scene back in the good old UK.

This is a very politically charged album. It's a bit of a critic of the United Kingdom system. I know the political system back in the United Kingdom has been the site of a lot of uproar since the Brexit controversy and I know there is political unrest in the country. Some people want to fight the system and make the country better and a lot of bands have chosen to write songs criticizing everything and in between.

This is a far more technical album that I am used to by the newer Thrash Metal bands. I have reviewed a lot of smaller bands in the genre and the aggression is there but nothing much else unfortunately. The bands really concentrate on the frenetic energy and the heartpounding beats. Sometimes there is no rhyme nor reason but this band gives something else to the listener. The musicianship is highly underrated and greatly appreciated and the band uses the technical side of things to mix it up. They added the Technical aspects of Melodic Death Metal (bands like ARCH ENEMY, AT THE GATES, etc) to their Thrash Metal sound.

We had the second coming of Thrash Metal back in the mid 2000's with this new wave. We had bands like HAVOK, MUNICIPAL WASTE, IRON REAGAN that broke down barriers. They injected new blood in a genre that was getting stale. The older bands picked up the pace and brought their music to a new level. I think SUN OF THE ENDLESS NIGHT falls in the category of that second wave of Thrash Metal. They are deep-rooted in the aggressive of the genre but they add their own personal touch. It's a nice mix, not the most original band out there but this album was a pleasant surprise !
