Everything Hurts

Swedish Metalcore band GRAYSCALE SEASON has recently released their album "Everything Hurts" on September 19th independently. First formed in 2012, they have released a self-titled EP in 2014, and an LP titled "Head To Mist" in 2016. Now, I have listened to both their previous albums and can tell you that they have slightly improved since their earlier work.
The album starts off with "Kobayashi Maru" and don't let the name fool you, this track starts off with a bang. Hard hitting drums that make you want to punch stuff, the vocals sound like they have more of a hardcore influence to it that just adds to the passion. A good song to choose as the album opener. The song "Busy Signal" starts off with exactly that. Then after we are met with some pinch harmonics throughout, and glimpses of melodies, and heavy breakdowns. "Joy" and "Happy" have much of the same theme as their titles. Melodic choruses, some clean singing, and an interesting connection between the two. You will just have to listen and find out.
"Glitch" has a lot of palm mutes and guitar chugging that really reminds me of the Deathcore genre. "Social Star" is filled with breakdowns, and blast beats. "Hillary's Step" starts out with what I would call, "uplifting vocals" from the front man, and then it continues throughout. The guitar work in this one in my opinion is the best on the album so far. "Fake Noose" has a lot of bends from the guitarists' and more chugs and breakdowns. "Invite Me In" took me by surprise because it's an acoustic song until about four minutes in but it fits so perfect when it changes. Really a well done song and it was good to see a change on the album.
Overall, I feel like this album was very repetitive. It has some good qualities to it but the same formula was used in nearly every song with slight changes here and there. Breakdowns, blast beats, melodic choruses etc. Don't get me wrong, they are very talented as a quartet and the instrumental timing was great on here; I just wish they would've expanded their talents more on "Everything Hurts".
