Godfather
Daybreak
When modern Metal way started to appear back in the 90's (so call it "modern" isn't fair, but it's just for the readers make some recognition of what reviews are trying to explain), as always happens into Metal, it fragmented and new genres were popping up throughout the world. That's the reason for so many bands with modern outfit in their music. So it's not a surprise to hear a band from Perth (Australia) as DAYBREAK that comes exploding ears and speakers with this three-track EP, "Godfather". They play into a melodic and impacting form of Metalcore mixed with some New Metal (this writer refuses to write "nu") aspects, creating something that sounds abrasive and intense, but with charming accessible melodies as well. Their instrumental technique is very good, but some ethereal moments can be heard during the use of clean voices.
The sound production of "Godfather" is truly very good. It sounds heavy and abrasive as modern Metal bands use to sound, but with the right idea to have such aggressive sound shaped by a clean aesthetics, a feature needed to be heard and understood by the listener. So be prepared, for its impact is really great! "Therapy" is a very good song, balancing the aggressive and the melodic aspects of their music with some chaotic rhythms (a sign that bass guitar and drums are doing a very good work). On "Bad Boy", a mastodon heavy and greasy weight can be heard due the hash guitar riffs. And "Godfather", besides sounding aggressive, shows some very good and accessible melodies that will hypnotize the younger Metal fans (the vocals use a very good set of tunes, from clean to shrieks and grunts).
They seem to be young, so DAYBREAK can become great due the quality of the music they offer. And "Godfather" is a brutal stomp in the spine of many, indeed.
