Moonless Night Sacraments
Deathwomb

There's a question that every musician must do to himself/herself before starting a band: is there anything inside of me that isn't the wish to be a carbon copy of what was already done? This question is the same that drove BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST and MOTORHEAD to be the three pillars of Metal, because everything comes from them. It means that the musicians must create something of their own, even following musical ways that already exist (no one is intimated to create something new at all). And although DEATHWOMB (from Spain) still needs to lapidate their music, they show some talent on "Moonless Night Sacrament", their first full length.
The trio is playing an old, rusty and raw form of Death/Black Metal in the same way of names as SARCÓFAGO on "I.N.R.I" times and BEHERIT on "Drawing Down the Moon" age. Crude and full of adrenaline, with a technical level not so high, and it's specialized on brutality, but with some catching parts and funereal keyboards parts giving them a different insight. Obviously some clichés from this old way are evident, but their musical talent is evident as well. VK (the well-known underground producer V. Kusabs) made the mixing and mastering of the album, creating that moldy and crude feeling from the past, but taking care to not turn it into a fuzzy sound mass. It sounds crude and old school fashioned, but with a good level of clarity (what could be better).
The brutal and nasty "Tablets of Fire" (a song with some interesting rhythmic changes), "Eternal Oaths of Chaos" with its fast tempos and good changes on vocals' tunes (and some amazing slow parts with keyboards), the morbid aggressiveness of "The Ancient Serpent", the darkened ambiance of the slow parts of "Moonless Night Sacraments" and "God's Servant Laceration", and the slow funereal tempos of "Enochian Keys" (the contrast between the guitar riffs and keyboards' parts is very good) are moments that will seduce every Death/Black Metal fan that prefers an old school insight. But the entire album reveals a promising name. They're truly good, but time, gigs and rehearsals will validate DEATHWOMB's musical talent.
