Spirits of Fire
Spirits of Fire
Musical projects are always a way that musicians gather to make something different from what they already did or are doing, a thing that blows fresh and new air into boring and stressful lives, and not a way to gain some money on the fans (there are some that are like this, though). Although the name SPIRITS OF FIRE could not attract the attention at first, when you see who is on the project and listen to "Spirits of Fire", the tables become turned!
Imagine a band that has on its line up names as Tim "Ripper" Owens (former vocalist of JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH and that sang with many names on Metal), Chris Caffery (guitars, the same one from SAVATAGE and TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA), Steve DiGiorgio (bass player for TESTAMENT, DEATH, AUTOPSY, SADUS) and Mark Zonder (drummer, who played on FATES WARNING and now is on WARLORD). Their names are enough to awaken our curiosity, and on "Spirits of Fire" we have a modern and thunderous form of US Metal, the same old and good traditional Heavy Metal that USA bands show. The musical genre is not new, but in the way they play, the arrangements they created, all sounds perfect and on their places, always with strong and heavy melodies, hooking choruses and impacting energy. Yes, this album has everything to take you all by assault!
Surrender! The production is a great work from Roy Z, the famous producer and guitarist that played with BRUCE DICKINSON, HALFORD and others. All sounds heavy, clean and modern, with a very good dose of energy and that weight that everyone knows from the US Metal School.
On "Spirits of Fire", a simple description would be "when JUDAS PRIEST and SAVATAGE meet", but this idea is not enough to explain the beauty and weight you'll find. And the charming melodies and heavy grasp of "Light Speed Marching" (great guitar riffs and amazing aggressive voices), the sinuous melodic lines of "All Comes Together" (very good chorus), the massive and brutally modern grasp of "Spirits of Fire", the accessible touch in the middle of modern outfit of "It's Everywhere", the excellent melodies of "Stand and Fight", the charming tempos of "Meet Your End" and the introspective and deeper "Alone in the Darkness" are the finest moments of this album. It deserved to be a double CD studio album, because the feeling that every listener of this album will be "I want more" in the end.
Let's hope that SPIRITS OF FIRE to be a commercial success, because all Metal fans deserves a second massive strike from them!
