Of Ruins and Agony
Warkunt
There are moments when the fans start to question themselves about why they have to pay for a musical work (an album, EP or whatever it can be) if they already have a similar (and better) band doing the same music. Think about this: you can play in the same genre of anyone, but you must be yourself. And WARKUNT needs to improve on their musical efforts, because "Of Ruin and Agony" isn't a bad album, but it sounds like many other bands.
Their work is a form of Death Metal in the 90's format from North American bands. There's nothing wrong on playing this genre, but it's like many other bands that are already know. It reminds a lot the work from bands as MALEVOLENT CREATION on their earlier albums, so it's brutal and aggressive, but done with a good technical approach. It's not new, but the band must leave the shadows of its musical influences behind and put more of its members' personalities on their music.
The production of "Of Ruin and Agony" gave the band's music a very good embodiment. It sounds clean and aggressive, as brutal as if it was recorded by the hands of those legendary producers of the 90's with the modern technologies. It's crude in some of the instrumental tunes, trying to emulate the organic sound of the past, so it's a blend of the past and present that works in an excellent way.
Their eight songs are not bad and show that they are talented musicians. "Into My Hell" shows very good tempos and catchy guitars, "Struggling with Insanity" bears very good tempos and excellent technical work from bass guitar and drums, the excellent dynamics between guitars and vocals on "Relentless Disposal for Vengeance", and the contrast between slow catchy parts with fast moments on "Dark Days to Come" is proof that the band deserves a chance, but as written above, they must put more of their personality on their songs. It's not bad, but it's like many others band from the past.
Adjusting things, the successor of "Of Ruins and Agony" will be the proof for all that WARKUNT is a remarkable name.
