Cathedral is one of the last bands someone could call mainstream or anything like that. They shifted from doom to stoney-rock with ease and I don't think that even their biggest fan expected then to release such an album again.
Endtyme shows its fangs from the first 5 seconds. Doom! As doom as it gets. So doom it would make Candlemass fans shiver from joy, having a chance to reach their most dark reaches of their soul listening to the dark riffs of Cathedral.
This album can only give a wide grin in Cathedral's fans. It does have some of their older stoney-rock elements, but it's doom for sure, and reminds a lot of their first release. Actually, it's one of the times where a band returns to its roots, without caring for progression or doing what they like (sounds familiar? ).
Gary Jennings gives mayem with awe inspiring riffs, while Lee Dorian has replaced the lunatic past approach with agonising howls.
Cathedral are back, this is definately recommended for their older fans
