I am the Rock
Professor Black
Since the passing of Lemmy, many Metal bands paid tribute to MOTORHEAD and many tries to keep their legacy alive as they can. I'm not judging them, but it's a matter of being careful to not become a clone and be offensive to the trio's memory, for they are along with BLACK SABBATH and JUDAS PRIEST the most important bands of Metal of all time, from everything that we know came from. But on the case of PROFESSOR BLACK, you can be sure: "I Am Rock" is really a lesson of how to play other band's style with your personal way.
"I Am Rock" is one of the three albums of the duo that are being released simultaneously, presenting here the filthy and nasty Rock 'n' Roll way of MOTORHEAD in their classic age. But don't get the wrong idea: they really make something in their way, playing loud and crude, but with a melodic insight that belongs to their own (hear as the vocals use natural tunes instead of that harsh voices that we are used to hear on albums as "Overkill" and "Ace of Spades" from their main musical influence). And how lovely is their work...The sound quality was created to fit on their music. All sounds clean and in a way that we can understand without problems, but be prepared to be blown by a sound that is organic and truly savage, done in a way that the filthiness of their music comes from the instrumental tunes (that seems to be treated with the lesser amount of effects possible). It's an excellent work, indeed.
Their set of songs is really good, and you'll have a very good time hearing to the savage rhythm of "Get It On" and "Bad News" (this one with fine vocals and backing vocals), the fast and grasping melodies of "Dance of Death" (very good guitars, indeed), the dirty and almost Punk Rock song "Hired Gun", the explosive nasty tempos of "Shakedown", and the sharp tunes used on bass guitar and guitars on "Three Devils". The other ones are as good as these ones, and then you must hear this album from the beginning to the end as your homework. The teacher's in the class, so let "I Am the Rock" be your lesson and have PROFESSOR BLACK begin to explain it for you.
