Graveyard - Back to the Mausoleum album cover

"On 25th August 2007, GRAVEYARD entered a dirty garage up in the hills of Castelldefels and composed, arranged, rehearsed and recorded the songs included on "Into The Mausoleum". After two days of insanity, infamy, serious hell raising and blasphemy, Bastard, Julkarn and Gusi unleashed 4 hymns of pure and unique Death Metal based on the late 80's and early 90's tradition, specially that one which used to come from Sweden. "Into The Mausoleum" was finished in October 2007." - Taken from the bands website.

Celebrating their 10 year anniversary, GRAVEYARD will be revisiting the album that has become a must have staple for any true death metal fans collection. "Into The Mausoleum" will be released via War Anthem Records 04.27.18. With an acoustic intro, "Scorched Earth", demonstrates guitar picking that is like tired footsteps slowly trying to carry on through a harsh desert of quicksand. In other words, an impending doom is around the corner.

"Craving Cries I Breath" picks up the tempo to a pace that can send a tornadic pit into motion. They definitely emulate the sought-after sound and technique of 90's Swedish death metal adding a darkness that is thickly layered with a feeling of bleak despair. "In Contemplation" delivers a towering aggression that proves speed doesn't measure or dictate how heavy a bands sound is. GRAVEYARD has taken the sound of DISMEMBER and by made it more thick, fat and full. The oohey-gooey sludge that utilizes every frequency your speakers have to offer is what makes GRAVEYARD's sound heavier than most.

Followed by the E.P.'s final track, "An Epiphany of Retribution", has an atmosphere of horror defined by the clean sung backing vocals that seem hauntingly tucked away as if to be almost subliminal. As the track descends into it's final moments it does leave very calliginous taste in your mouth and is one hell of a way to exit. "An Epiphany of Retribution" lingers not only in your mouth but resonates lasting echoes in your mind.

GRAVEYARD has done exactly what they set out to do and their effort definitely deserves to be celebrated. Having six releases under their belt, consisting of E.P.'s and splits, it is most impressive that it didn't take a few releases to obtain the sound they wanted. They came out of the gate with teeth grinding, brutal, heaviness that defined an era while making it their own.
