Sometimes, bands with melancholic melodies and all those Post Punk influences abuses their musical accessible approach. Names as KATATONIA and ANATHEMA in their latest works can be said as mere referential frame for those who love melancholy and, on many occasions, can be too near of Pop influences. DEATHWHITE, from USA, is a band that follows the same path of them, but as we hear on "For a Black Tomorrow", they have a ways to go.

This duet (for the information I have in hands) really creates a tender and melancholic form of music, without Progressive Rock influences. Their melodic lines are fine, all their musical elements too, but as this particular musical genre was used (and abused) for many years, the band still lacks of something that can make them a great name amongst their colleagues of musical genre. But they're on the right path, and are talented enough to face this trial. The recording sessions, mixing and mastering of "For a Black Tomorrow" were done under the tutelage of Shane Mayer. The album has a clear and tender sound quality, to allow the fans to absorb the album without problems. All was created to be clear, for the melodic side of their musical work can be noted easily.

We can hear that some good musical ideas can be heard on songs as "Contritrion" (the heavier guitar's parts are really fine), the tender and introspective melodies on "Poisoned" and on "Eden", the mix between melancholic melodies and some aggressive guitars on "Dreaming the Inverse" and "Death and the Master" (this one shows good melodic vocals), and the introspective energy of "For a Black Tomorrow", but their dark approach must improve in a personal way. No, they are good, but a more personal touch is needed. For now, "For a Black Tomorrow" is a good album. But DEATHWHITE clearly can do better than we hear on this album.
