KATACOMB is a finnish thrash metal band that was founded in 2010. "Unrelenting Power" is the bands debut album following an EP released in 2011. With this album the band tries to make their mark on the thrash metal landscape. They could become a big name in the industry with just a few tweaks to their sound.

"Leprotic Nightmare" comes out of the gates hard and fast. The guitars and the drums keep up the pace throughout the song. The vocals on this song are where it loses me. They feel disjointed from the rest of the song. The music is some great fast paced rhythms, but the vocals come across as a little sloppy.

"Rising from The Tombs" begins with a more slowed down tone but still heavy riffs. The vocals are similar to the last song, but they seem to fit the song better this time. At one point the vocals clean up a lot and the song really take form. I think if the vocalist would keep this approach throughout the album it would transform the songs for the better.

"Speed of Light" hits fast and hard. The guitars and drums are on point but unfortunately again the vocals seem out of place. I think it has to do with the fact that the vocals are delivered slower than the pace of the song that makes them feel out of place on the faster songs. There are parts that the song slows down, or the vocals get faster that the song takes on a more cohesive form, but at other times its falters. However, again the music is top notch.

"Overdose" comes through the speakers extremely fast and heavy. This is probably the hardest song on the album. There is very little reprieve in the riffs and drum hits. Again, since it is a fast song the vocals don't seem to fit with the song that well. I would have to say that musically this is one of the weaker songs on the album.

The monster of a song that the album ends on is "Into the Katacomb". This track clocks in at a hefty 8:27. It starts out to be a slow burn song that lets you marinate in the sounds, but then suddenly kicks in with fast paced riffs and drum beats. There are parts within all this that the song really shines, but there are times when it falls as well. Even though I still think this is my favorite song on the album because of all the different things the band attempts within this one song.

The "Unrelenting Power" was a good listen. The music compositions were very good and had me banging my head along with them. My biggest disappointment was with the vocals. As I stated before many of the songs didn't seem to fit with the vocals all that well. It gave the songs a very disjointed feeling while trying to listen to them. I would be interested in seeing what the band does on their next go around. I see parts within this album that if the band nurtured them they could produce a great album.
