Volition
Death Rattle
Since Groove Metal arose from the all birthing chaos, there are those who hate the genre, blaming it for all the most nonsensical accusations you can name; and those who love and defend this musical genre in any condition. Groove Metal is another Metal genre, like Thrash Metal, Death Metal and all those ones who came before or after it. Accept that it came to improve things, guys. The North American quintet DEATH RATTLE is here to stay, because their second album, "Volition", is an excellent neck breaker.
Greasy and aggressive, but with clear defined tunes, the quintet is here to stomp your necks and play a greasy and chaotic musical mass that combines the harshness of Thrash Metal elements with the abrasive tunes of Groove Metal and some elements from Southern Rock. It's nothing extremely new, but in their hands it works perfectly. The sound quality of "Volition" is really very good. The tunes are not as greasy as some bands love to use, being defined and clear. But the greasiness of the music is focused on the abrasive tunes of the guitars and bass guitar, with all being clear and aggressive in the due proportions.
The inferno of intense riffs of "Love and War" (that shows very good tempos), the massive outburst of energy that comes from "Sentenced to Hell", the catchy tempos of "Snake in the Grass", the raw fury shown on the musical arrangements of "Adrenalize", the shrapnel of riffs shown on "Order Within Chaos", and the excellent work from bass guitar and drums on "Doomsday" are the best moments of the album. But I believe that the listeners will love all of the songs.
"Volition" is a very good work, indeed.
