Bands that copy or try to be from a time long gone are gross mistakes, wastes of efforts and resources. An example to explain what I mean: HELLHAMMER had left some recorded testimonies that the band existed, and a sequence of its works could be done solely if the members rejoin and bring the band back from the dead. An effort with the idea of give continuity to the ban's musical work done by musicians that love their music is annoying, because we already have HELLHAMMER's releases. That's the idea behind my deeper thoughts when dealing with such kind of band. And let me tell you: SACROCURSE could be a very good band, but "Gnostic Holocaust" shows clearly that all their talent is wasted.

Yes, it's wasted in the vein trying to be what they aren't: a Black/Death Metal band from the end of the 80's/beginning of the 90's. They have musical talent, but it becomes almost entirely lost when they try to be as extreme as they could be, choosing to be the most "true" (yes, I'm being ironic) as they can. And sorry: it seems like a joke to me, but I'm not laughing, nor even smiling. They could have better results trying to leave the shadow of their musical influences and to use these musical clichés in a better way. And let me tell you: in the 90's, many of the fans would turn their backs on their work. It's common, like many others that already existed.

The sound quality is a loss of time. The band tries to be nasty and crude, and in their case, it sounds artificial. The tunes are really terrible on snare drums, and the overall result is too moldy and raw, and in some moments it's really a fuzzy mass of sound (why in the blazes the guitars are low in this way?). On their ten songs, we can hear a musical talent, if they had made a wise choice to balance things, and in some moments, the idea that we heard it somewhere else before on works from BLASPHEMY, GRAND BELIAL'S KEY and others in this way is annoying. And songs as "Just Fucking Die", "Spirit Versus Flesh", "Kirie Eleison" (their best song, due the use of slow tempos and where we see that they have musical talent), "Empire of Sekmet" and "Triumphant Tribulation" are good moments that could be better if they had chosen to be what they are, and not what other bands are.

Cleanse yourselves from this "true" idea, be yourselves, and I really will be pleased to speak in your defense, but on the way things are on "Gnostic Holocaust", I'll always speak the same words: it's a waste of time.
