To play Death Metal is not as difficult as some think. But the hard part is to have a personality. You can play in a fast way or into a slower trend, put all elements you want or just use the old models. It doesn't matter the way you play, but the personality you have within you. This is the main feature that allows you to make something good and different from what was already done. But there are some bands that put everything out there doing using a nasty approach, as the Finnish one-man band DESECRESY does on "The Mortal Horizon".

You can hear that Tommi Grönqvist (the only member of the band) has some good ideas, even different insights of the Old School Death Metal he chose to play. But the hardest thing of the album is that everything sounds too extreme. Obviously, some fans will think that it's a good thing, but to sound extreme in Old School models is something strange sometimes. The good ideas are here to be heard, but this lack of where extremity must end turns the listening of the band's musical potential into a difficult work. The problem is on the sound quality. Of course, some of these ideas could be explored in a better way, not as aggressive and dirty as it is presented to us. The main key was the mixing, because the instruments are in volumes that aren't the best. The guitars are with nasty tunes, and the snare drum is disgusting. So, the producer of the album did everything he could to make it sound the worst way possible.

Some good aggressive melodies can be heard on "Amidst", "Percussive Necromancy" (but sometimes, we have the idea that the drums and the rest of the instruments are not in the same tempos), the slow-paced tempo of "Concealed Depths" and "Atrophoid", and the guitars shown on "Perpetual Waves". But they are good ideas that lose their meaning in such dirty, raw and extreme sound, and I didn't talk about the extreme low range on vocals that we can't understand a word that is being sang. I wish them etter luck next time, and hope that a producer can help to fix the band's problems.
