When Black Metal was born at the end of the 70s, VENOM started to spread its satanic gospel in musical shape, followed by BATHORY (that prepared the bitter soil for the generations to come with "Under the Sign of the Black Mark"), HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST was creating an experimental insight that would guide the courageous ones (just a hearing to "To Mega Therion" and you'll understand my words), SARCÓFAGO started to use a heavy and aggressive visual to match their musical blackness ("I.N.R.I." is an important album for the consolidation of Black Metal), and MAYHEM took all their influences to breed the formula we all know now. This is a simple form to see the influences and evolution of Black Metal and to explain how this harsh and bitter genre is so filled with passion. These bands have very good heirs today, and maybe the Lusitanian cult CORPUS CHRISTII could be said as a legitimate inheritor of their essence, because "Delusion" is truly an amazing album.

They play a traditional and raw form of Black Metal (let's remember that they are active since 1998). They are as traditional as they can, but with a very good insight that they're living on the XXI century, and not back on the 90s. So we can say that the band made an actualization of the sound you hear with their main musical personality's features. And it's truly good done with the right amount of technical work, with fine tempos very good shrieked voices and catchy guitar riffs. And the drummer for the album was Andrecadente, an invited guest. The production was done, as told above, in a way that a modern and heavy sound quality can be used by a band with a SWOBM insight on their identity. And it works, transpiring aggressiveness, but with that essential touch of clearness that we need to understand what the band stands for. And the traditional way of the band pulses on the choice of instrumental tunes that make their music sounds raw and really funereal.

In a style used by traditional Black Metal bands from the past as MAYHEM, SATYRICON and ANCIENT, the band's musical work sounds very good in all aspects, what make "Delusion" a compact album in terms of the quality of the songs. And this fact makes the work to point to this or that song as a best shot a very hard experience. But the sinister and aggressive "The Curse Within Time" with its raw energy focused on good tempo changes and very good guitars, the brutal grasp of "Chamber Souls" with its nasty voices and somber atmosphere (be prepared), the harsh contrast between aggressive moments and introspective parts shown on "Become the Wolf" (very good work from bass guitar and drums with its heavy rhythmic mass), the bitter and nasty atmosphere that fills the morbid "Facing Concrete Mountains", the nasty melodic lines on the guitar arrangements of "I Am the Night" (wonderful slow paced parts, with a raw stench of death permeating the entire song), and the very good tempo changes presented on "Carrier of Black Holes".

Yes, they are very good in what they play, so CORPUS CHRISTII really can breed great musical ambitions, because "Delusion" is all the proof they need. Great work!
