It's More Than Rock and Roll
Rock Goddess
At the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s, a great revolution was on course in Metal and Rock and Roll. There was the time when the first female bands came to the world, and let me tell you: they didn't have anything to prove to anyone, because their musical work was strong, proud and heavy. Among those names was a trio of Heavy Metal/Rock and Roll that became a cult: the English she-devils from ROCK GODDESS. I still remember when I heard their work for the first time, in 1985, in a compilation here in Brazil. I am feeling myself honored by the chance to write about their new EP, called "It's More Than Rock and Roll". Yes, these girls are back and ready for some action!
Their musical work is based upon the same Heavy Metal/Rock and Roll orientation from the NWOBHM, but done with a raw energy and punch that are particular from them, using very good melodies, great choruses, and a good level of technique on the instruments. Beware, because they are back to teach some lessons to the new generations. The sound quality is very good, turning their songs into a rush of raw energy, sounding clear and heavy in the same proportions, but with that raw feeling that only bands from those days can be. Everything sounds organic, but far away from some moldy thing.
Listen to these songs and you see why I never accept clones from those days, because the energy that comes from their musical work is unique, and can't be imitated for those that didn't live in the 80s. "It's More Than Rock and Roll" is a melodic blow in our ears, filled with excellent work from bass guitar and drums, along with excellent chorus. On "Back Off", the purest sign from NWOBHM with a modern and nasty actualization, with very good vocals and that hooking mix between musical aggressiveness and easy melodic lines. Things get pretty heavy and these girls slow down the tempos and unleash a song as "We're All Metal", that is bitter and heavy as Hell, but with very good guitar riffs and solos, and fine backing vocals. But the only complaint I have: why in the blazes just three songs? We want more! Thank you for coming back, Jody, Tracey and Julie. You are true Metal girls, the true ROCK GODDESS, so show the world your Metal guts!
