The Replicate - A Selfish Dream album cover

To make a musical project is not an easy task, even today, when technology and the internet make these things easier that some years ago. I say that based on one conception: it's extremely difficult for some musicians to stay out of the shade of their previous works. But imagine a project that arises from a musician that isn't as well-known as others. Expectations go down to zero, and you can take the best from the music that is offered to you. This is the case when you are introduced to "A Selfish Dream", a four track EP from THE REPLICATE.

The band is a project from Sandesh Nagaraj, a well-known musician in India, where he played bass guitar for MYNDSNARE and guitars for EXTINCT REFLECTIONS and STRANGLEHOLD. Now, he lives in Los Angeles, and THE REPLICATE is his new project. Experimental sometimes (as you can hear on "A Selfish Dream"), and brutal and aggressive as a Death Metal band inspired by DEATH on their more technical era (from "Individual Thought Patterns", "Symbolic" and "The Sound of Perseverance" times), but always heavy and abrasive, the band's musical work is really very good, and sometimes you'll have the feeling that it's not an expected form of music. Yes, be prepared to be drowned in chaos and madness!

Mixed and mastered by Matt Lynch at Mysterious Mammal Studios in Los Angeles, this EP has a very good sound quality. Yes, you can really confirm that their songs are sounding aggressive, heavy and clear in the same, balancing these aspects in a very good way. The tunes are good as well. As "A Selfish Dream" is extremely short, I can speak from all of its songs. On "Chainsaw of God" you'll hear a very good technical work, showcasing good bass guitar and guitar parts. "Eugenicide" shows some modern and experimental parts, but keeping this song into a Death Metal way (although the Jazz parts can be heard clearly, especially on drums and bass guitar parts). Although the technical parts can be heard in some points, "The Saline" shows a straight orientation, with very good tempos and vocals. "A Selfish Dream" shows all the experimental essence of the band. This is a courageous work, so be prepared to be hooked into it!
