The more albums you hear, the more you start to have that idea of hearing the same band again and again due the repetition of the same musical elements. And today, in the middle of the flood of Metal/Rock albums it's a reality hard to deal with. But there are moments when patience is granted for something fresh, as "Murder and Motive", the first album of the South Wales based quintet THOSE DAMN CROWS. In a very straight way: they're a modern Metal/Hard Rock band in the same vein of STONE SOUR and ALTER BRIDGE. These words mean that it's aggressive, but with an accessible and melodic insight guiding the musical work of the quintet. Obviously they show a musical identity and their musical is really charming to our ears, and their music has that catching aggressive touch, but a bit more maturing will make miracles. No, they're not bad at all (it's the opposite, being clear), but their musical talent is in such level that they can do something better.

On the sound quality of "Murder and the Motive", it's obvious that they had a true hard time during the recording, because all sounds great and clean, in a way that some old musicians can't do sometimes due their links to musical genres. But be sure it's great, clean, and pretty aggressive as well. They'll make success, it's something obvious. And songs as "Don't Give a Damn" (a balanced blend between modern and aggressive melodies with musical accessibility, and with that chorus easy to understand and sing), the modern energy of "Blink of an Eye", the melodic Punk Rock essence of "Someone Someday" and "Rock and Roll Ain't Dead" (the simple technical work is great, but how the choruses are amazing on both songs), the introspective "Behind These Walls" (a perfect song for radios), the bitter weight of "Say It", and... Come on, guys, their songs are all on the same level, and this album is not difficult to be heard and understood, so make a favor to yourself and hear it out loud.

Obviously they're not perfect and have a ways to go, but you can bet on one thing: "Murder and the Motive" is just the beginning, because THOSE DAMN CROWS will be a great band in a blink of an eye.
