Monkey3 - Astral Symmetry album cover

In the end of the 60s and throughout all the 70s, Psychedelic Rock bands existed and showed a very good way into Rock'n'Roll. Metal Progressive Rock and many other styles had that same experimental and ethereal atmosphere. But this element that we can call "psychedelic feeling" lost its charm on the 80s, because Metal became more aggressive, and Progressive Rock and other ones started to wither. But in the last 10 years, many bands are trying to bring back this musical aspect. Some create something disgusting, others do a good job. To be honest, "Astra Symmetry", new album from the quartet MONKEY3, is really a good example of Psychedelic Rock.

Only with few vocal parts, 90% of the album is done with instrumental parts, sometimes tender and introspective, other times a bit more aggressive, but always an ethereal and warm voyage. Yes, it's truly good, but with some Stoner Rock musical aspect that brings some touches of rawness to their work. Yes, it's truly good. The sound quality of "Astra Symmetry" is very good, keeping their songs clean, with every musical instrument clear and in its due place, very good tunes and that touch of essential dirtiness that their music deservers and needs.

We can describe their identity as a fine mix between the lysergic musical voyages of PINK FLOYD with the dreaming and tender atmospheres created by HAWKWIND, more their personal identity. So be prepared, because "Astra Symmetry" is not an easy album to swallow, but when you get the idea, you'll be in love with it.

The nasty energy from "Abyss", the excellent keyboards parts of "Moon" and "Endless Ocean" (this one with very tender and good melodic lines), the heavy work from bass guitar and drums on "Crossroad", the very good clean guitars and keyboards on "Mirrors" (that creates an introspective Folk atmosphere), the good vocals on "Dead Planet's Eyes", and the experimental "The Guardian" can be said as their finest moments. But I believe that when you come to understand what they are creating, you love all the songs.

Loved to hear such a good album!
