The biggest aspect of DARKEST SINS' music is that just straight ahead Melodic Metal; it doesn't really conform to any one type of subgenre; I think this allows for them having some versatility and variety in their music. The opening track, "The Broken", starts off with a melodic Eastern sound, maybe something like NILE would do if they were not death metal oriented.  Once this built-in intro ends and the storms hits, the song gives a great pre-chorus and chorus.  Danielsen's melodic voice is reminiscent of power metal but not as corny or falsetto; he actually reminds me of a more even leveled Ripper Owens.

His guitar playing is just as melodic, as far as the guitar solos go.  The solo in "Rough Love" is well done and offsets the songs corny lyrics.  Peter Danielsen is the other guitar player, and the two play off each other very well.  The melodies and harmonies are infectious, such as the mid-point on "Domineer" and the beginning of "Fear" but the riffs themselves, while serviceable, won't astound you.  As with a lot of bands with synths/keyboards, the album works best when everything comes to together such as the symphonic parts on the after mentioned "Fear" where everybody is really playing in unison, creating a vibrant atmosphere.  Nikki Pink, who also shares vocals and is very good in her own right, has some really great bass on this album.  It's very heavy with a deep sound to it that really gives the band a much needed back bone considering the riffs aren't that strong compared to the solos and melodies. Pedersen's drums are on point, really backing the songs when needed, often times pounding during the catchy choruses or crashing the cymbals during a symphonic part.  His double bass is very fast and has a good sound to it, although it could be louder in the mix.

Without a doubt the center piece of the album is actually the last track, "Far Away," an 11 minute epic that really show cases what the band can do.  After hearing this song, it makes me wish the other ones, as good as they are, were more fleshed out.  "Far Away" has a great chorus, some really cool solos, drumming and quite a few twists and turns, both in style and tempo.  Fabio Lione helps out with the vocals on this one but the band stands strong on their own; this song includes everything you could want but it also doesn't feel too excessive. This is an above average release that has some incredible highs and I think this band is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future, especially if they can keep writing songs like "Far Away."
