Armory - World Peace...Cosmic War album cover

Well, to create something in music having the past as the foundation is the usual, because everyone does the same thing. Yes, everyone, because all of us have a past, and it really has a strong influence on every part of our lives. But in music, you must, at least, do things on your own, not in the guidelines some build using the past as boundaries. No, because the things were done in this way, there wouldn't be bands as MOTORHEAD, METALLICA, FEAR FACTORY, VENOM and all of those who broke rules and did something new. Although the Swedish quintet ARMORY, is doing a good work on "World Peace... Cosmic War," it could do ne done in a better way.

It's just that old and well known form of playing Speed/Power Metal with good melodies, a strong and fine instrumental basis, and good vocals. But this style is truly eroded by the use, and the band doesn't make any effort to run away from those limits I spoke above. It sounds good, but it doesn't sound personal, because I heard this same kind of music time and time again. Another factor that is really annoying on "World Peace... Cosmic War" is the vain and unnecessary tentative to sound as a band from the 80s. Please, stop this nasty and useless thing, because there are many bands that look for something modern and have excellent results. This foggy and raw quality doesn't fit on their work, is just like they are trying to say "we are from the 80s", and it is really ridiculous!

The feature that saves their album is that their songs are truly good. OK, it's nothing new, but the songs are very good, indeed, as you can hear on the fast ones "Cosmic War" (very good melodies on the guitars) and "High Speed Death" (the vocals are fine, but these high tuned shrieks are annoying sometimes), the very good work on bass guitar and drums on "Without Days, Without Years", and the fine guitars on "Final Breath" and "Space Marauders". You must evolve, guys, but a fine musical producer would turn you music better.
