There are albums that when you hear them, the main idea that you have is that it could be way better if the band took another look into their musical style. That's what we think when dealing with the North American quartet ATTALLA, that is releasing "Attalla," their first album. Their musical style is clear: an oiled and abrasive Doom/Stoner Metal style. To be honest, this way of playing Metal is really nothing new at all, and they could be better, but there's still some kind of excessive respect for the boundaries of this particular style and its features. Ok, Big Daddy here understands this aspect of their musical style, but it holds them back when the band could have done something really great.

The sound quality is what you could expect from the style: raw and oiled, sounding distorted and thunderous. But it is the way that fits perfectly in their musical work. But don't worry: it's not as dirty as you can think about, in the way their songs would sound like a fuzzy sound mass. Musically, they are truly good, with good instrumental technique. But the vocals are not as compatible with their musical work as they could be. They could be a bit more aggressive, and they would be right. But they need to improve their efforts to sound in a more particular way, because they are on the same level of the other bands of their style.

For now, "Haze" with its nasty guitar riffs and good tempos, the very good distorted bass guitar parts on "Lust", the very good drumming on "Thorn" (along with good guitar riffs), and the nasty dirty atmosphere of "Doom" are promises of a band that is talented and can do better that we hear on this album Better luck in the future, guys.
