When a band evolves from one Metal style to another, it's simply impossible to its members to erase and discard completely from their earlier musical influences. It's a matter of facts, not an esoteric idea. So, when you are listening to "Amissum", the new EP from the North American Black Metal duo CHAOS MOON, you'll have the clear idea of what my words mean. Their musical work is what is called by many as Avant-garde Black Metal, and in many cases, is just the fusion of darkened, filthy and aggressive aura from Black Metal on the earlier days of the SWOBM with the darkened and funereal tempos from Doom Death Metal, and some really somber moments. It is in the same vein from bands as ABIGAIL WILLIAMS and WOLVES IN THE THRONES ROOM, using very long songs. But they know what they are doing, and their work is creative, besides this musical format was used by some bands before.

The sound quality is truly raw, because it's what fits better in their musical work. Of course we have to make efforts in some moments to decipher their songs' details due this fact, but this quality is what makes their music come to life, to have sense. So, it's something that only the ones who are used can deal with. Fans of a cleaner sound will have problems. As "Amissum" was recorded between the years on 2012 and 2016, we can feel that CHAOS MOON was in a transition moment of their musical career, but only the future will tell us were this evolution will take them. For now, the long, raw and brutal "Amissum" (a fast and aggressive song, with very good keyboard parts and vocals), and the three parts called "Resurrection I", "Resurrection II" and "Resurrection III", that are three different songs, but the whole result seems to fit on one atmospheric and nasty song, a kind of sinister and darkened epopee. They are talented, and I hope that a new album is coming soon.
