High Spirits - Motivator album cover

Well, the easier way is the always the best way. I know it's an old saying, but it really fits in many ways in our lives every day. that seems to be the main idea behind the musical work from HIGH SPIRITS, a North American band from Chicago, and that was born from the ideas of Chris Black. They are releasing their third album now, called "Motivator." The band's musical work is based upon a mix between traditional Heavy Metal (with a touch of modernity in some moments) with Hard Rock. This is not a new style, but the old formula works perfectly, having excellent choruses, fine musical arrangements, good vocals, heavy and catchy guitar riffs, and a strong and heavy rhythmic section. The result sounds fine to our ears, even not being something really new. Listen and be hooked by their songs!

The sound quality is very good, keeping an excellent balance between the weight of the songs, the beauty and aggressiveness of their musical personality, and the needed clarity. So, in terms of production, "Motivator" is alright. Musically, the band presents a sound that can really reach your soul, because it's done with heart. This kind of music is a tradition in USA Metal scene, so they know perfectly what they are doing.

Their best moments: the catchy chorus and great moments of guitars presented on "Flying High" (very good riffs, I must say, along with melodic solos), the abrasive weight of the charming "This is the Night" (this song is a bit more aggressive, with very good work from bass and drums), the fine arrangements done by guitars on "Do You Wanna Be Famous" (the musical accessibility is on high level on this song, done with very good riffs and solos once more), that Hard'n'Heavy catching musical structure that we all know from North American bands that is presented on "Haunted by Love" (a perfect marriage between melodies and weight, were the vocals are excellent), and the strong scent of musical accessibility show on "Take Me Home" (where bass guitar and drums are doing a fine work). They are really quite good, and "Motivator" is a good album. But I believe that HIGH SPIRITS has more to show us. But for now, put the album on play, and have a good time.
