Divine Weep - Tears of the Ages album cover

One of the things that Big Daddy here is truly convinced of, is how left wing dictator regimes destroyed people lives and freedom in the past. Metal and Rock never could be in any kind of agreement with such things. Metal and Rock are the musical voices of freedom, so no Metalist could, even for the slightest moment in his/her life, support left wing radicals that turned some countries into great concentration camps, and citizens into slaves. Yes, I am speaking about guys like Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Stalin, Lenin and all of those oppressors. It makes my skin crawl to think of left winged party Metalists. But as with all kind of evil, when dethroned, it's time to rebuild. So, Poland, a land that was oppressed by communists since the end of WWII until the end of the 80s, now is a great warehouse for Metal bands. DIVINE WEEP is one of them, showing their beautiful music on their second album, "Tears of the Ages."

Besides their Melodic Black Metal roots in the past, their current work is based upon a combination of traditional Heavy Metal with some elements from Power Metal (that in some moments dominates the band's work), so their music sounds charming, melodic and intense, but with very good taste. Their formula is nothing that wasn't done before, but it's truly good, and they have a strong personality. "Tears of the Ages" has a very good sound quality. It's truly clean and allows us all to understand what the band is playing and where they want to reach with their music. But of course that essential dose of musical aggressiveness is presented here, so there aren't complaints about the band's music. The cover, a fine job done by Piotr Szafraniec, is far from that old cliché of dragons, warriors and something that you can find on "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.

Their music is really excellent, and their finest moments can be found on the excellent and charming tempos of "Fading Glow" (full of great guitars and vocals, and with an excellent chorus), the traditional Heavy Metal songs in the same vein of the NWOBHM found on "Day of Revenge" and "Last Breath" (both full of excellent work on bass guitar and drums. The tempos are not so fast on both songs, and the vocals' arrangements are truly good, especially the chorus), the hooking Heavy Metal hymn called "Never Ending Path" (it has that slow tempos that were used wisely by ACCEPT on the past, but with a much more melodic scent, and extremely good guitars and vocals), and the wonderful and charming "Tears of the Ages", full of great arrangements, excellent vocals, perfect guitars and a fantastic work on bass and drums. And the album has two extra songs on the remaking of "Age of the Immortal", from their first album (excellent, heavy and showing very good guitars) and "Łzy Wieków", from their first Demo Tape (from 1997), that was a Melodic Black Metal song that became the embryonic version for "Tears of the Ages," here in a Power Metal format and with lyrics in Polish. Excellent album, just that!
