InLegend - Goliath's End album cover

In many times, we have to deal with bands that are side projects from musicians of some known name. But the biggest mistake one can commit when dealing with some of these albums and projects is to look for something that the main band of the musician plays. Of course, many will deal with deception for running into things and jumping into conclusions. But even different, you can find something really good, it's a matter of having an open mind to deal with different musical conceptions. Established these parameters, we can really talk and enjoy a lot "Goliath's End", the new EP from German band INLEGEND.

To be clear from the start: it's not something that I would call a Metal release. It's more piano or keyboard orientated Rock, something that stays between AOR and classic Pop Rock from the beginning of the 80s, when bands as TOTO and SUPERTRAMP were doing excellent jobs. But don't be confused, because INLEGEND has something of classic music on it due the choirs' arrangements. The music is tender and introspective in many moments, on other is filled with orchestral and grandiose parts, but always good. The sound production did a fine job, indeed. Their songs don't need weight, for it isn't their musical orientation to be a Heavy Metal band. So, the cleaner they could sound the best their songs should be. And they got a good level of sound clarity, so you'll understand their music without problems.

Their six songs are all very good, indeed. "Waifs 'n Strays" has tender melodies on vocals and pianos, but be prepared for some Pop Rock chorus, in a song that really warms our hearts. And the same elements can be found on "Reason" (but this one is more introspective) and "Arabesque" (and here, the song is done with pianos, keyboards, some violins and vocals, where the soft voices really creates a tender atmosphere). "Maybe" presents another tender and melodic atmosphere, but the musical technique here has a more complex insight (just a bit, not too much). On "Wide Awake", the same elements that we find on "Arabesque" are back, and on "No More Weddings", we have a more funny and AOR/Pop Rock song, with fine vocals and backing vocals. Their work is really good, so enjoy "Goliath's End" as much as you can.
