Khynn - Supersymmetry album cover

In terms of theoretical physics, supersymmetry is a theory where bosons (fundamental particles with integer values of spin) can have a partner fermion (another fundamental kind of particles, having half-integer values). But this is just a theory, for the Standard Model of Physics of particles.

A bit complex, isn't it?

Well, it is, and only Physicists with Master's and Doctor's Degree on the area could do a better explanation. But if you're not interested on Physics (and I believe it's the case of the greater part of the readers), but in music, give a good listening on "Supersymmetry", the new album from French quartet KHYNN, a good album.

It's a mix between Metalcore with some influences of Thrash Metal and Death Metal. So it's violent, with songs showing a good level of technique. But also, we have melodic and tender moments, and some experimental touches. And these features give their music a good range of diversity that is truly delicious for our ears.

The production was done in an excellent way. Brett Caldas-Lima (who did the recording, mixing and mastering processes) made a fine work, because the band is really sounding loud, aggressive and clear on "Supersymmetry". And the tunes used are matching perfectly with their songs, abrasive and modern, but bitter and heavy as Hell. And the artwork of Hicham Haddaji is fine, translating to visual art what the quartet is playing on their music.

Better songs? To be honest, there's no such thing here, because all of them are very good.

But as you all need some references (as well as my Editor in Chief would feast on my liver if I don't do so), the modern abrasive weight of "Tainted Impression", the power from the guitars presented on "God in Hell" (as well as nasty harsh vocals in the powerful and melodic moments), the experimental and tender "Breath Inside Me" (a melodic and melancholic ballad on the album, showing the versatility of the vocals), the abrasive melodic lines of "Persona" (with astonishing riffs and very good work on rhythmic kitchen), the bitter experimentalist presented on "Depersonalization", and the short dose of melancholy that is shown on "A Wild Night".

It's a very, very good work, indeed.<
