Living With the Danger
Darkness Light
Sometimes, we must study different aspects of Metal style, because genre labels cause great and disgusting troubles. For example, what is the true form from Hard Rock? Those bands from California like MOTLEY CRUE and RATT, or bands as WHITESNAKE?
The answer is quite simple: both groups, being the first called sometimes of Hair Metal or Sleaze Rock, and the second is just a softer and accessible way of playing good and old traditional Heavy Metal. Well, now we have established these differences, we can finally speak about German group DARKNESS LIGHT and their first album, "Living with the Danger".
They are a melodic Hard Rock band, with some influences from German Metal. It's indeed heavy, but melodic and catchy, with fine musical arrangements, good refrains, fine choruses, and all the features that a fan from the style will really love. But the band's vocalist needs to improve, because Hard Rock, on both ways, must have a great voice leading the way. His voice is not totally compatible with their music.
The sound quality is really ok, with good tunes and very good level of clearness. All is in their due places, with a good amount of weight. Some aspects could be in a better shape, of course, but it's not bad.
Their work is good, but still needs to mature a bit more. Of course they have very good songs with fine instrumental arrangements, all is going in a very good way, but you will have that feeling of a band that almost gets there. And the word "almost" clearly means that you hadn't got there...
Songs that are catchy are "Adrenaline" (where the Hard Rock energy is mixed with some Metal influences, and the tempos remind something from earlier ACCEPT works), the hooking chorus of "Darkness Light", the nasty energy and keyboards arrangements on "Bad Boys Are Better", and the key arrangements heard on "For Another Sunny Day". But I'm sorry to say, the incompatible vocals are really annoying sometimes.
Their work can improve, they are talented and have potential, but a better vocalist must be found.
