It's hard sometimes to do a review of a band which has a style that flees enough on your personal taste, well, being a music critic you will come across the most diverse styles, including some that are distant enough from Heavy Metal, including its best-known and traditional sub-divisions. The SKINDRED, in my view, is far from Metal. Yes, there are heavy guitars and bases referring to the style, but the band goes to an alternate way and the first band that came to mind when I heard them for the first time was the RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, the rapper vocals (the look of the singer is of reggae or rapper vocalist), the effects used on the guitar, a DJ on line-up (definitely, this is not Metal) and the political and social content of the lyrics.
We have other references who has used this mix of styles, fusing Rap, Reggae, Metal, Funk, such as FAITH NO MORE, LIVING COLOUR, BODY COUNT and even more traditional bands had some experiences, like ANTHRAX with PUBLIC ENEMY, but the best references I can give to those are not familiar with the band's sound, I believe that is RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and FAITH NO MORE.
Does not always work and will not a sound to everyone, especially to the more traditional metal fans, and the SKINDRED is recommended for the listener who looks for this more alternative side.
If you enjoy this line more alternative, i believe you gonna like it, the sound is well done, well produced, energetic and cohesive, but, if it's not your thing, pass away.....<
