When you hear the name LIMB and are asked "what do you think this band plays" your first answer is Death Metal right? I mean, LIMB, come on it makes so much sense, but they're not. If I had to say anything I'd give it a Modern Metal or a Hard Rock tag, rather than a Doom Metal one although that is what they're to be considered, to be honest the first band I thought of hearing these guys was THREE DAYS GRACE just a little heavier. Well LIMB have something to share with us and said thing is their new album "Terminal."
For whatever reason my version of the album kicks off with "Cocytus," a rather slow pace song with a Doom Metal undertone to it. Over the course of 9 minutes I found myself getting lost in this song, not in an especially good way, less than half way through the song the same verse and riff is repeated over and over and when it changes eventually, a different verse and riff are repeated over and over. 5 minutes of the same thing, over and over and over and over and over and over - you get the point. This wouldn't be such a bad thing if it wasn't for the fact that the riffs aren't exactly riffs but more of a single note being struck over and over until eventually, at the end of the song, they hold a note and let it drown out.
"Dawn Raiders" and "Sleepwalkers" to name a couple are a bit more pleasant to listen to, much shorter spanning an average length of 4 and a half minutes. The songs feature fairly catchy riffs and almost a more THREE DAYS GRACE mixed with MASTODON sort of sound. While these songs sound like a more refined Modern Metal, the song "Mortuary Teeth" sounds more like an old Hardcore demo song, the vocals are much more harsh and raw while the instrumentals are more aggressive.
"Terminal" is an on again off again album, there's all sorts of different aspects to this album from Hard Rock to Metal to Hardcore and everything in between. Anyone can find something to love and hate in this album, but it keeps you on edge, you never know what will come next. LIMB have written a rather unique album that everyone should give a chance, whether they're into Rock, Punk, or good ol' fashion Heavy Metal.
