Demona
The ones who read the reviews of Ol' Big Daddy here must understand a thing: I am an old Metallian, the kind of those who saw the 80s and the 90s, and is still here to tell the history as it really is. I'll speak a great truth: there's no answers left on the past. If you want to tell "oh, Big Daddy, I really love Metal from the 80s", even being born long before they have gone into the past. I'll understand your passion, but never can understand the reasons for this 80s' Metal trend from nowadays. This is the main reason bands that follow this way are mere clones to me. I don't want clones from SLAYER, MEGADETH, LIVING DEATH, TANK, MOTORHEAD, VENOM, HELLHAMMER or any other of them, for I already know and love their work. And the world doesn't need clones, as Chilean DEMONA is up to be. This EP, "2015", is something weird and truly boring to me.
The first listen (there are only two songs on this EP) was something boring to me. I heard it again and again, to become true that feeling of "I already heard it many times before". The work from guitarist/vocalist Tanza is something mixing bands as ACID, LIVING DEATH, German WARRANT and many other names. This 80s' Speed Metal way doesn't fit for this time without some personality. And it's hard for me to say this, but the truth is: this one woman band failed totally. This is a Dolly Metal clone, nothing more.
The sound quality is trying to bring back that same feeling and quality from those times. Forget it, it just seems ridiculous to search for the past like this. Maybe a better job in the studio would fit, but the quality is clean, clean enough to see who is forcing herself into the thing.
The songs do have energy and some good arrangements, but it all fails in this distorted trend to sound like the 80s. "Chasing the Speed" (a good song, with some heavy and energetic riffs) and "Allura Red" presents good ideas, if Tanza could do better trying to use a more of her personality.
I really want to see more of her work, but Tanza, I must tell you a thing that old Metallians must pass to the new generations: don't be like we were, but be like yourself. Take the truth from your heart, not from our past.
