Coincidences occur a lot in our whole lives.

Now, it's a great one for me: I remember clearly when a cousin of mine brought a CD to me in 2000. I remember that I liked a lot the band, but as I wasn't mature as I am now, so "Big Daddy" let the CD aside for another one. And this CD I had and I am speaking of is "Resurrection", the second album from the Swedish duo GODGORY. And for coincidence, it's being re-released now, and I am writing this review for you all. And of course, I am mature enough to understand their work better now.

First of all, I really don't believe that the label "Melodic Death Metal" does not fit properly on their musical work. The band has a musical range too big for such label,
using and abusing of influences from Doom Death Metal and something from Metal from the 70's, giving some psychedelic atmosphere to some of their songs. It's very difficult to label them, so say it's a Metal band. Their work is based in very good vocals (using very good grunts and some whispered voices), excellent guitar riffs (and some great solos), and a powerful rhythmic session, along with some keyboards. Yes, I can for sure say that GODGORY (that I thought back them to be a TIAMAT's clone back then) was a band ahead of their time.

The sound quality is excellent, being as clear as it could be back then (remember: it's an album released on 1999), but heavy as hell when the band needed. And the album sound greatly both in aggressive and tender moments. Better songs on this album? Don't make fun of me, asking this old man here such a thing. GODGORY made an almost perfect album back then. Just hear songs as the introspective and wonderful "Resurrection" (great and fine vocals, both whispered and harsh ones, along with great guitar arrangements), the aggressive "Crimson Snow", the introspective "Adultery" (having elements both aggressive and tender, and the band's filling the spaces with great melodies), the enigmatic "Death In Black" (great keyboards, along with fine riffs). And of course their version for ACCEPT's "Princess Of The Dawn" is very good, but of course that GODGORY put their own personality on the song.

It's a pity to know that they ended the band. But hope is never dead, so we can hope they can come back. But as the dream doesn't come true, the reissue of "Resurrection" is a good album to hear now.<
