Neverending Maze
Deathisfaction
Your Ol' "Big Daddy" here always says the same thing: to play old fashioned Metal styles, you need desperately to have a strong personality. There's no big deal, the things are just that only way. This is a fact, because you must put life on what you're doing, and if you're trying to play an old school Metal style, this is a demand. Of course you must have some references (that is what we call musical influences), but you can't be like your idols. You must be yourself. And the quartet DEATHISFACTION, from Netherlands, is trying a lot to have a particular identity, as their second EP "Neverending Maze", shows.
The quartet mix influences from North American Thrash Metal with the same style done by the German School (especially KREATOR on "Extreme Agression" era). But a strange fact occurs that is not so simple to explain: besides their style is old fashioned, it doesn't sound full of mold and dust. And it seems that some violent insight of their work, along with some influences from HC/Crossover appears here and there points to a personality pulsing under these nasty vocals, strong riffs and technical and heavy rhythmic kitchen. Their personality is still covered by dust, but it really exists, they're not a Dolly Metal clone.
The sound quality could be a little better. It's a bit dry than the necessary (tearing out the needed weight), the tunes could be way better (especially on guitars). But it is clear, so we can hear and comprehend what they are playing.
Their four songs are all good as a whole, being the best track "Warmachine (For the Fallen)", where very good melodies arise from guitars (with some licks reminding something from DEEP PURPLE's "Burn" first riff) even using such violent musical approach. But "Neverending Maze", "Haunting" and "Deathisfaction" are good songs as well, but as I told in the beginning: they still have a way to go and put out their own personality.<
