Algoma - Reclaimed by the Forest album cover

Wow, wow, these Canadian guys are really nasty!

Dirty, raw and smelling to a pub, ALGOMA keeps the tradition of Canada, again giving fine bands for our ears. And their first album, "Reclaimed by the Forest", is like a savage Sasquatch on a furious attack!

They play a way between Doom Metal with a Sludge grasp, so it's a mix of a slow and bitter way of playing Metal with more aggressive and harsh voices, this trio is coming to deafening many ears. These vocals are aggressive and nasty, but not in an extreme Metal way, as the guitar riffs reminds a lot a mix between Tony Iommi's ways with some bitter and abrasive sound, and the rhythmic kitchen is not so worked as many would like, but it's efficient in the way it is. So the music is not the most original thing in the world, seeming sometimes with CATHEDRAL's "Forest of Equilibrium", but is very good as is presented on this album.

Mark Rand took the duties of mixing and mastering the album. And he knows how to make music sound abrasive and harsh, but not to the point to turn their work into a confused sound mass. No, no, here you can understand things. And the sound quality here is a part of their musical identity. In other words: the way it sounds, the way it must be.

Five very good songs are presented to us in this album, with the better ones being the long and nasty "Bedsores", the chaotic and bitter "Reclaimed by the Forest" (the gruesome riffs here are excellent, with some good vocals as well), the high adrenaline-fueled  "Go On, Git!", and the long and very good "Extinct Volcanoes".

Of course, they still have a long way to go, but they're very, very fine, indeed, and have a very good future, if they know how to evolve.
