Dawn of Ruin - Poço da Infâmia album cover

Since MOONSPELL appeared back on the 90's, Portugal's Metal scene became more know worldwide, and even when you don't know, that old country still have some new names appearing, as TERROR EMPIRE, SCAR FOR LIFE and many others, from Hard Rock and traditional Heavy Metal to more aggressive styles, as Black and Death Metal. And DAWN OF RUIN, a Black Metal orientated quintet, shows that those rich historical lands still have good surprises for us with their first work, "Poço da Infâmia".

In reality, it's their first Demo CD, but even being this way, with some live tracks, we can feel that they have blood in their eyes and great will to make music. Their way of playing can reach a good speed, or be more darkened and morbid. Ok, Big Daddy here knows that this is not really something new in terms of music, but if you listen carefully, these Patricios (they know why I call them this way) have great potential and a proper soul. Harsh vocals the uses some low grunts, good guitar riffs, and pretty technical rhythmic basis are presented here, but the greater value of their music is that they prefer to sound as a whole.

The production in not something as good as it could be. It's sometimes hollow and lacks of weight in some tunes (specially the guitars), but it does not damage their work. But if you think in terms of Black Metal, it's raw, so it reaches its point, and of course you can hear the instruments in separate ways.

Hearing these Patricios' songs, of course we feel that they can offer more and more, can be a great name in extreme music, not only into the lands of Tejo River, but can conquer fans worldwide, as songs like "Descanso Eterno" (a slow and misty funeral, with very good and darkened vocals and very good guitar riffs), and the aggressive and harsh "Morte Vermelha" (very good song, with some morbid melodies, and the bass and drums do a good work) can prove. Of course, the live songs are fine and with good sound quality, being "Tetraplegic God" and "Wretched Abyss" proofs that they can reach higher levels into extreme Metal scene.

Eu os saúdo de coração, Patrícios de Além Mar.
